CHOOSING THE RIGHT POOL CLEANER
Pool cleaners are hardworking little machines that can travel hundreds of kilometres a year, which means a lot of wear and tear on their parts. It’s important to buy the best model you can afford.
Saving money on a cheaper model now could mean spending more to replace it in the short term.
Here is an overview of the three types of pool cleaners on the market: suction, pressure and robotic.
Suction pool cleaners attach to the skimmer box using a hose and literally suck up dirt and leaves. There are inertia driven suction cleaners that clean in a pattern but may take some time to cover the entire pool. Then there are geared suction cleaners, which move in a pre-set pattern and clean the area faster. Read more about suction pool cleaners here.
Pressure pool cleaners have more power than suction models. Most require an extra booster pump, which means adding another hose connection in the pool wall. The ones that connect directly to the existing pool pump may put extra pressure on the filter, potentially wearing it out before its time. Read more about pressure pool cleaners here.
Robotic pool cleaners, like Swimart’s Trident range, are placed in the pool where they automatically clean the floor, walls and waterline. They run on electricity, so you'll need to have an electrician install an outdoor power point. Read more about robotic pool cleaners here.
